Grapevine Alert Cleared–Back Up on Southbound I-5 Due to Fatal Multi-vehicle Crash Cleared

ALL-CLEAR UPDATE GORMAN, CA / the GRAPEVINE (Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at 11:19 a.m.)—The CHP has just issued an "all lanes open" alert. The southbound I-5 is open and traffic is flowing again. Details about the accident will be included in the upcoming issue of The Mountain Enterprise.

DETOUR UPDATE GORMAN, CA / the GRAPEVINE (Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at 9:41 a.m.)—The only detour around the accident scene is: Southbound I-5, off at Gorman exit, turn left to Gorman Post Road, turn right and go three miles to Highway 138, turn right and connect with I-5 south toward Los Angeles. UPDATE  GORMAN, CA / the GRAPEVINE (Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at 9:29 a.m.)—Reporter for The Mountain Enterprise Gary Meyer said the scene is "horrific." The traffic back-up continues. More details will be posted shortly, with photos.

UPDATE GORMAN, CA / the GRAPEVINE (Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at 9:20 a.m.)—Community reporter Scott Robinson of Pine Mountain, who works at Los Angeles Fire Station 77 in Gorman, writes: "Just a bit more info after talking with one of the guys at the station… apparently it was 5 vehicles involved, including a semi truck. We had 2 airships from the county and 2 paramedic squads, a paramedic patrol plus Kern E-56."

UPDATE GORMAN, CA / the GRAPEVINE (Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at 8:36 a.m.)—CHP Officer Townsend of the Fort Tejon CHP office predicts that it will be about 2 more hours before the lanes are fully open on the southbound Interstate 5 Grapevine area at Highway 138. A fatal crash involving multiple vehicles and possibly three deaths occurred at about 6 a.m. this morning. Cars are being allowed to pass slowly on the shoulder.

We will report here when the coroner’s investigation and clean-up have been completed.

GORMAN, CA / the GRAPEVINE (Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at 6 a.m.)— A fatal crash involving possibly three deaths and multiple vehicles has closed southbound I-5 at the Highway 138 for investigation, according to a California Highway Patrol alert. We will report here when the coroner’s investigation and clean-up have been completed.
