Gunplay on Mt. Pinos Way? Probably not…

Non-Shooting in Frazier Park Heard All Around Bakersfield

By Patric Hedlund—The Mountain Enterprise heard from several mountain residents on Thursday, Sept. 5 that a broadcast news report was circulating in Bakersfield about a shooting at a motel in Frazier Park.People were concerned. “Is it true?” they asked. Bottom line: Bakersfield broadcast news got it wrong. Here is the report from Sergeant Mark Brown about what, uhm…, triggered the misreporting. On September 5, 2013, at about 2:50 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a motel on the 3500 block of Mt. Pinos Way in Frazier Park to investigate a reported shooting.

A heavily intoxicated man with a small cut on his left ear and a small bruise behind his left ear reported being shot as he sat on the bed in his motel room. His injuries were not consistent with a gunshot wound.

No physical evidence such as a bullet hole, broken glass, blood splatters, or shell casings were located, and three people in the area, one of them in the motel parking lot, reported not hearing gunshots.

The man, whose injuries appeared to be consistent with a fall or impact injury, refused medical treatment at the scene.
