Lake of the Woods to truck water

By Patric Hedlund

Lake of the Woods Mutual Water Company has begun to truck water into the community to maintain its tank reserves, residents said this week. Customers of the besieged water company have alerted The Mountain Enterprise that water deliveries have been arranged. Diane Gustafson, office manager for 26 years, said she “did not have time for questions” and to call Bob Stowell, board president. Stowell did not return calls to his home and his office to verify these reports.

One resident reports that Water Operator Rafael Molina, Jr. “said $1,700 was for 12 trips. Each trip is 3,500 gallons.”

Reverting to its “first Thursday of the month” meeting time, the board discussed the state of its wells on Thursday, Aug. 1. They are proceeding to drill at the old gas station site near the corner of Lockwood Valley Road and Frazier Mountain Park Road, expecting not more than 37 gallons per minute from that site. They also discussed putting two wells back online: Cuddy Hall (now at about 10 gpm) and Well No. 2 (formerly high in uranium but said to be in legal limits now).

This is part of the August 9, 2013 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
