NEWS UPDATE: Lebec Housing Development Goes Before Planning Commission

FRAZIER PARK, CALIFORNIA — The Kern County Planning Commission will hear plans Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors chambers, for a proposed subdivision of 22 acres into 32 parcels west of Lebec Road, north of the Ft. Tejon CHP office. The public is invited to comment.

French & Associates is making the request for this project, planned by Jim Wainright before his death in 2007. Jeff French said it is a two-part request: 1) to correct an error made by the county for a 1.5 acre corner of the parcel which "was always meant to be part of the 23 acre residential designation" (rather than an agricultural preserve) and 2) to create the 32 parcels.

Keats Gefter of the TriCounty Watchdogs said in email: "this is exactly the sort of reasoning which ignores the will and intent of the Frazier Park/Lebec Specific Plan…It’s a model for tract development."

French replied: "this area was always designated as residential by the General and Specific Plans." He said the project is "what was always intended in that area." Roads and utilities will be installed and "the whole thing may be purchased by a single builder. Jim wasn’t sure himself how that would go before he passed….," French said.

When: 7:00 p.m., tonight, Thursday, Feb. 14

Where: Board of Supervisors Chambers, first floor, Kern County Administrative Center, 1115 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield.
