So far, things are going great at Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School in the Los Padres National Forest. We have two new teachers, Mrs. Julie Draa (who teaches second and third grades) and Mrs. Elizabeth McCormack (who teaches sixth and seventh grades).

They join two other great teachers. Mrs. Page (kindergarten and first grade) and Mrs. Schwantes (fourth and fifth grades) have been at our school for a long time. We also have a cool new principal this year. His name is Dr. Danny Whetton. He is very calm and nice.

We have a big playground to play on. It has a sand pit, bikes, tetherball, monkey bars, a slide and two four-square courts.

Our student leadership committee is hoping to raise money to buy more equipment for the playground this year, too.

On Saturday, Sept. 28 we had our annual Fall Festival. Each class brought in a food made from a seasonal ingredient. Mrs. Page told me she thought this year’s festival was the best one yet!

The K-first grade Hummingbirds brought foods made with pumpkin, squash and other gourds. The second-third grade Blue Jays’ dishes all included either tomatoes or green vegetables. The fourth-fifth grade Quails brought berry-themed foods. The sixth-seventh grade Falcons brought foods featuring apples.

On Sunday, Sept. 29 we hosted our First Annual Golf Scramble on the Pine Mountain Club Golf Course.

About 32 people, including several of our own students, played golf. The scramble was won by one of our kids, Genesis Vaughn, and her stepdad, Daryle Watts.

After golf, people headed to Lampkin Park for a hot dog dinner. Then we had a bunch of ticket drawings and gave away some really cool prizes, like concert tickets and even a whole basket of chocolate!

Right now we are looking forward to our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Cardio-a-thon (October 18). Of course, we can not wait until Halloween. P2P will be hosting a haunted house at the Pine Mountain Village gazebo during trunk or treat and we will have our annual costume parade at the school.

Note: Corrections have been made to the name of Mrs. Elizabeth McCormick and to the time of the Pine Mountain Village gazebo haunted house, which will take place during Trunk or Treat.
