Power Outage Hits Lebec in Early Morning Hours

LEBEC, CA (Friday, Nov. 11, 2010 at 9:14 a.m.)–Lebec resident John Delmos reported an early-morning power outage in the Lebec area saying "I think the power went out around 2 a.m. and came back on around 6 a.m."

Jan Morris of Pacific Gas & Electric told The Mountain Enterprise this morning that a power pole near Laval Road, west of Interstate 5, had broken and some equipment on the pole needed to be replaced. Morris said 716 power customers were affected, including those in Lebec. She said repairs were scheduled to continue for approximately six hours from the time of the initial outage which occurred at 4:42 a.m., according to her records, but that power had been restored while repairs were continuing.

Kern County Fire Station 55 Captain Gary Killian told The Mountain Enterprise that wind had caused two power lines on a pole to make contact and arc, igniting a small grass fire and causing the power outage.
