Frazier Mountain’s U-14 Quicksilver claimed the AYSO Soccer Area Championships with four exciting and hardfought games against other regional champions from the Southern Central Valley on December 10-11.

Several teams from the Mountain Communities’ Region 382 made it to the AYSO Area A Tournament at Hart Soccer Park in Bakersfield.

Congratulations to our U-10 Coyotes coached by Paul Heisig, the U-12 Rebels coached by Matt and Cristal Vivirito and to the U-14 Quicksilver coached by Peter Kjenaas.

Every game was do-ordie for advancement in the playoffs and competition was intense. The Quicksilver’s teamwork was on display as they won their Saturday games with scores of 3-1 and 3-2 to qualify for Sunday’s championship match.

This co-ed team plays boys only teams at this level. Our competition learned not to underestimate the total team effort Quicksilver brings to their games.

Quicksilver dominated the Sunday morning game with a 6-0 victory to qualify for the 2 p.m. championship round.

Michael Stegeman’s goal in the first quarter gave Frazier Mountain an early lead, but Region 73’s Full Metal Jacket fought back to tie the game in the fourth quarter. A 1-1 tie at the end of overtime took the championship decision to a 5 on 5 shoot-out of penalty kicks. Quicksilver prevailed with successful PKs completed by Lily Hallmark, Joshua Ausherman and Hunter Lannom.

As keeper for Quicksilver, Hunter Lannom also stopped 3 shots to yield a 4-3 victory for the Quicksilver.
It’s been a fantastic year for the Quicksilver, demonstrating tremendous sportsmanship and teamwork; they do a great job representing our community.

This team had an undefeated 18-0 season and now advances to the Sectional Championships in late February.
