History is being made by Quicksilver, the Mountain Community’s co-ed soccer team of boys and girls under 14 who won the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Area and Regional Championships against all-boy teams throughout Bakersfield, Tehachapi and beyond.

This Saturday, Feb. 25 Quicksilver enters Sectional playoffs. In the entire United States, there are only 14 AYSO sections.

Coach Peter Kjenaas (rhymes with ‘tennis’) says, “If they win, this may be the first co-ed sectional champ in the entire country.” Quicksilver will be playing all-boy teams from as far away as Fresno.

Saturday’s games are scheduled at 9 a.m., noon and 2:45 p.m. Go cheer them on, at: 9400 Alfred Harrell Highway, Bakersfield. If they win, Quicksilver plays again on Sunday.

Team sponsor is Poindexter and Co. of Ventura, a C.P.A. firm that helps with uniforms, insurance and field upkeep.
