Snow Falling, SCHOOLS OPEN WEDNESDAY, Grapevine Open

UPDATE: Gorman, CA (Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 1:42 p.m.)—Sybil Chester called to say Gorman School is now closed. She received an email from her daughter’s teacher that school is cancelled due to snow stcking on the ground. Lise Wastaferro, Librarian and Bookkeeper for Gorman School confirmed the school closed around 12 noon due to snow accumlating on the ground.

UPDATE: Lebec, CA (Wednesday, Feb.15 at 12:45 p.m.)—Fort Tejon area snow is sticking on Lebec Road (icy conditions on the two bridges crossing the I-5) Caltrans snowplows in service on I-5.

UPDATE: Palmdale (Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 12:22 p.m.)—Neenach resident Robert Curley reports that snow is falling heavily in Palmdale where he is staying with relatives.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN / GORMAN, CA, the Grapevine (Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 10:03 a.m.)—Snow is falling in the Mountain Communities, from Pine Mountain to Lebec and Gorman. Alice Assaly of Alice’s Attic in Lebec reports, “It’s light snow but it’s coming down at a pretty good clip.” Gorman Market reports that, “It’s snowing a little bit,” in Gorman. All schools are open at this time. Interstate 5 over the Grapevine is open. All other roads are currently open, except Cerro Noroeste Road, which is closed for the winter. The Mount Pinos Recreation Area is open for snowplay at Nordic Base–following Frazier Mountain Park Road continuing onto Cuddy Valley Road, then stay left onto Mt. Pinos Road, nine miles to the top of Mount Pinos.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN, CA, the Grapevine (Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 9:08 a.m.)—Happy Valentine’s Day to all Mountain Community students! Gorman School Superintendent and Principal Joe Andrews announced this morning that Gorman School will be closed for a snow day today, due to icy road conditions. All ETUSD schools officially took a snow day today also. Frazier Mountain High School will still host a playoff soccer game at 3 p.m.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN, CA, the Grapevine (Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 8:30 a.m.)—Happy Valentine’s Day students! School is cancelled at every El Tejon Unified School District facilities. This will be a snow day for all schools because of icy road conditions. We’ve received no word from Gorman School, but no one is answering the phone at this time. Frazier Mountain High School will still host a playoff soccer game at 3 p.m.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN, CA , The Grapevine (Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 at 7:30 a.m.)— Valentine’s Day dawned clear and bright. There is snow on the ground, with ice on shady mountain roads, so drive cautiously. All El Tejon Unfied School District schools are on 2-hour snow-delay status today.

About an inch to two inches of snow accumulated at the higher elevations of the Mountain Communities during the passing storm yesterday and last night. The gusty winds are now quiet and skies are bright with intermittent cumulus clouds. See below for start times of area schools.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN, The I-5 GRAPEVINE (Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 8:05 p.m.)—El Tejon Unified School District reports that all schools will have a 2-hour snow delay on Tuesday morning. Frazier Park School will begin at 10:05 a.m., El Tejon School at 10:20 a.m. and Frazier Mountain High School at 9:20 a.m., according to Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT) Supervisor Fernando Nieto.

Pine Mountain Learning Center will also be on 2-hour delay.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN, The I-5 GRAPEVINE (Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.)—A 2-hour snow delay has been called for Pine Mountain Learning Center tomorrow. Cars were reported stuck near the Mil Potrero “Y”, near the junction of Cuddy Valley Road and Mil Potrero HIghway. The Grapevine is still open, and snow in the eastern section of the Mountain Communities is very light. About an inch has fallen at the higher elevations of Pine Mountain, but the temperature has dropped and roads will be icy. Please drive cautiously.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / PINE MOUNTAIN, The I-5 GRAPEVINE (Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.)— Snow has resumed  in the Pine Mountain area and extends through Frazier Park. It is a light snow, with mild winds. Motorists should drive carefully and slowly, watching for icy patches. The Grapevine is open.

UPDATE: LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK / The I-5 GRAPEVINE (Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at 10 a.m.)— The snow has come and gone again in Pine Mountain, with small gusty winds but little precipitation at this time in other parts of the Mountain Communities. Motorists should drive cautiously and watch for icy patches, which are still on the roads at higher elevations, but most roads are clear. The Grapevine is open.
