U-12 Legacy vs. Burgundy Beasts
By Sandy Spiro

On Saturday, Sept. 18 the AYSO soccer U-12 teams were on fire at 9 a.m. The scrimmage opened with Legacy (coached by Laura Raymond and Loren Gram) scoring 1 point in the first quarter of the game. There were several first quarter point attempts by Burgundy Beasts John Masud and Isabella Spiro (coached by Jeff Neeley and Bill Shillig, sponsored by Mountain Auto Body).

Destin Ray made some amazing second quarter shot attempts, but Legacy’s defense was in the zone. Another point earned by Legacy put the first half of the game at 2-0, Legacy.

During halftime, Burgundy’s coaches gave the Beasts aggressive attacking maneuvers to keep Legacy from scoring further.

Dylan Forrester kicked up a dust cloud when he collided with a Legacy player in front of the Beasts’ penalty zone in the third quarter. The two went to the ground, but emerged from the haze without a blink to continue playing.

Legacy kept their defense up to win, 2-0.

U-19 Prime Time
By Tonya Zorich

Prime Time (coached by Tom Farrar, sponsored by Mike’s Pizza Company) had a heyday against Bakersfield’s Region 734. There were many great plays in the high-scoring game.

Goals scored: Troy Durkee- Hatrick 3, Tim Johnson 2, Joe Molina 1, Luke Francis 1, Christian Brown 1 (header). Assists made: Francis 2, Johnson 1, Michael Kurtz 1, Durkee 1 (throw in).

Good defense by Cody Draa, Stephen Ryan, Nick Thomason, Orion Zorich and keeper Chase Hawes kept Bakersfield at two goals.

Playing with no subs and one down in the final quarter—due to a red card for inappropriate language—Prime Time controlled this match from start to finish, winning 8-2.

Prime Timer Jonathan Lutes cheered his team from the sideline after suffering a broken leg in last week’s game. Thanks to Scott Grim for coaching in the absence of coach Tom Farrar.

U-10 Mountain Mayhem vs. Killer Whales
By Pam Jarecki

The U-10 Mountain Mayhem (coached by Debi and Forrest Csulack, sponsored by Holiday Inn Express) played a tough game against the Killer Whales (coached by Matthew and Cristal Vivirito, sponsored by Fishcare Unlimited) on Saturday.

The Killer Whales came out strong in the first half, pounding goalie Tristin Csulak for the Mountain Mayhem repeatedly. Tristin only allowed 2 goals by David Kimbrough for a 2-0 score at half time.

Knight Jarecki came in as goalie for the second half. He too was repeatedly pounded by the Killer Whales. David Kimbrough scored 2 more goals, while Angela Stegeman and Macalah Bierman both scored a goal. The final score was 6-0 for the Killer Whales. Both teams played hard and strong throughout.
