During a medical aid call near North End Drive on Wednesday, May 13, at about 6 p.m., a patient reportedly stole a Hall Ambulance vehicle and drove east through Frazier Park, then on Frazier Mountain Park Road toward Interstate 5.

Shortly after, as authorities were searching for the ambulance, the runaway driver hit a big-rig truck, head-on at high speed in front of the Flying J truck stop.

Two fatalities were reported in the crash by press time Wednesday.

At the scene, it appeared that the fatalities were the driver of the ambulance and the driver of the big rig.

A medevac helicopter arrived, but was canceled as the coroner was called.
