• The Mt. Pinos Communities Fire Safe Council will meet at Chuchupate Ranger Station (34580 Lockwood Valley Rd., Frazier Park), 9:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend and learn valuable information for this dangerous fire season.

Saturday, May 16

• Enjoy the Pine Mountain Scrappers Quilt Guild Show in Lampkin Park (west of Pine Mountain Village), 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Free Admission.

• The 33rd Annual Lilac Festival Parade in Pine Mountain Village begins with acrobatic skydivers at 11 a.m. Get your spot early! The festival is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food, rides and activities for the children, live music, vendors, performances and tons of fun for all ages. Admission and parking are free. See page 13 for more information.

• Celebrate the California Living Museum’s 32nd birthday with a Birthday Bash, 9 a.m.–4 p.m in Bakersfield. Kids 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Animal keepers host wildlife presentations; docents show off CALM’s ambassador animals. A bounce house, train rides, food and beverage booths are part of the fun (www.calmzoo.org).

• The Vine Pregnancy Center hosts a community open house, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at their new location, 3604 Arroyo Trail, Frazier Park (across from Don’s Liquor). All are invited to tour the center and learn about the services offered.

• Los Padres Estates’ annual meeting is open to all property owners, at the El Tejon School cafeteria (4337 Lebec Road, LB), 1 p.m.

• Artworks Community Gallery presents Lilac Time, featuring several artists. All are invited to a reception at 5 p.m. (16233 Pine Valley Ln., PMV). The gallery is open Friday–Sunday, 12 noon–5 p.m. Lilac Time will run through June 7.

Sunday, May 17

• Lilac Festival continues in Pine Mountain Village, 9 a.m.– 5 p.m. Food, rides and activities for the children, live music, vendors, performances and tons of fun for all ages. Lilac Fest Golf Tournament starts at 1 p.m.

• Improve your birdwatching skills with help from the Tejon Ranch Conservancy. Join the Intermediate Birdwatching hike, 9 a.m. –3 p.m. Learn to document rare discoveries. This hike is leisurely. Bring water and lunch. Reservations: www.tejonconservancy.org.
