• Frontier Army Days is 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at Fort Tejon State Historic Park in Lebec. Make your own butter, visit the blacksmith shop and carpentry, plus meet soldiers who served on the frontier; $5 for adults; $3 for kids 7–17; six and under free. Bring a picnic lunch.

• September is National Preparedness Month. The theme this year is “Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead. You Can.” The goal is to increase the number of people and communities engaged in preparations for emergencies. Each week in September will have a different theme. • $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America by Kathryn J. Edin and H. Luke Shaefer is this year’s One Book Selection at the Frazier Park Library. Pick up a copy and join the conversation. The discussion is set for Saturday, Oct. 14, 3 p.m. at the library. A related Storytime for youngsters on managing money well is set for Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m.

• Calling all art lovers. A Silent Auction fundraiser is planned to benefit the Family Resource Center (FRC) on September 8, 9 and 10 at Artworks Community Gallery (16233 Pine Valley Ln., Pine Mtn. All proceeds go to the Family Resource Center, which serves local needy families with children, veterans and elders to secure healthcare, food and services.

• PMC: Issues and Resources is this month’s Town Hall topic presented by Vicky Kraft on Friday, Sept. 8, 7 p.m. in the Condor Room of the PMC clubhouse. A segment on avoiding conflict with bears will be included.

• The astrophotography of Scott Rosen puts the stars in a new light Saturday, Sept. 9, 7:30 p.m. in the Pool Pavilion of the PMC Clubhouse. Scott’s slide show will include works that were selected by NASA as photos of the day.

• Join the 16th Annual Ride/Walk to Remember on Monday, Sept. 11. This is the yearly observance for those lost during the September 11, 2001 attacks. Riders meet at 3 p.m. at Brennan’s Dream Weaver Ranch in Cuddy Valley (661.623.0356). Walkers meet at 4 p.m. at the Piñon Pines mailboxes.

• Lockwood’s Ranch hosts the Destination Dinner for the Ridge Route Communities Museum. Dinner is Saturday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. but come at 4 p.m. for a tour. Historian Bonnie Kane will tell how the story of Hollywood celebrities, McCarthyism and the notorious blacklist are part of the history of this landmark in Lockwood Valley.
