20-Second Quake Warning may save your life

California’s new Earthquake Early Warning System app took 20 seconds to install on my phone—not a lot of time.

The app can provide between a few seconds and up to 20 seconds or more warning that a large earthquake is sending shockwaves your way. That’s a lot of time when you need a few seconds to get clear of hazards, take cover and hold on.
