Big Rig in Flames on Southbound Interstate 5 near Frazier Park/Lebec—I-5 now clear

LEBEC, CA (Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9:30 a.m.)—A southbound big rig on the Interstate 5 slow lane near the Frazier Park offramp exploded in flames this morning at about 7 a.m. Lebec resident Richard Bermudez reports that the tractor was pulling two trailers. “The whole cab was completely engulfed, and the first trailer exploded,” he said.

California Highway Patrol reports that the big rig in lane one jacknifed and then overturned, then burst into flames. “Explosions were heard,” the CHP log said. The second trailer was empty CHP reports; the front trailer was Amazon, according to the field log. There was a projected 4 hour closure, but lanes 1 and 2 were cleared by 8:39 a.m.
