Focus of L.A. County’s illegal marijuana Zoom forum not on West Antelope Valley

The speeches at Saturday’s January 22 “Community Forum: Tackling Illegal Cannabis in the Rural Antelope Valley” came across as campaign pitches wrapped in reciprocal pledges of support between county, state and federal agencies. The star of the show clearly was set up to be Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. He has been taking fire from local leaders and citizen oversight committee members for many things, but Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger took time to testify to her admiration for the sheriff during the forum.

While West Antelope Valley (WAV) residents hoping for news about any sign of impending action in their neck of the woods walked away empty-handed, everyone was treated to a useful bullet list of ways to tell if your neighbor’s house is being used as a marijuana grow facility.

In 2021, we published a story with numerous photos of outdoor grows operating in plain view from public roads.

Unfortunately for WAV locals, it can be hazardous to their health to drive those pubic roads.
