Mudslide blocks two northbound lanes south of Templin Highway

CASTAIC, CA (Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 at 7:31 a.m.)—A portion of a hillside has slid onto Interstate 5, blocking the #3 and #4 (slow) lanes of the northbound side, just north of Castaic, three miles south of Templin Highway. Caltrans is working to secure the area, leaving one to two lanes open for northbound travel as cleanup work permits. The slide had been progressing for several days, according to Caltrans. The agency has placed “k-rails” around the slide. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for all except essential travel, and to expect delays if travel northbound up the Grapevine is necessary.
