As the New Year begins to “dribble” out, the Frazier Mountain High School Lady Falcons basketball teams continue to work hard toward victories.

On Friday, Jan. 9, both the varsity and JVs played against the Vasquez Mustangs in a non-league game and showed no sympathy for the opposing team.

Last year the ladies were fourth in league while the Mustangs were around eighth, according to Coach Wayne Henderson, who is head coach for both teams. His assistant coach is Ben Garcia.

This season the junior varsity team has played eight games with a 4-4 record while the varsity team has played 12 games with an 8-4 record so far.

In an aggressive and tough first half Friday, the junior varsity girls held the lead with 20 to 5 at halftime. By the end of the game, the JV prevailed with 40 to 9.

“Fun and exciting!” was how guard Alicia Quick described the game.

The varsity girls also played a first-rate game. The Falcons had control of the court by halftime and each player managed the ball well.

“Jenny (Jennifer Karson) was awesome! She made over 25 points during the game,” said statistician Nick Riemenschneider, “Tammie Christianson had 13 rebounds!”

“They played a fierce game. They started slow but got into a good system and ran with it. They scored most of their points on the free throw line,” Henderson said.

With sharp teamwork, the varsity handed Vasquez a 72 to 47 defeat. “This was the best game played in a while. I love this team!” said Falcon boys basketball varsity center Kyle Hessel.
