• Frazier Mountain Little League tryouts take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (depending on age) at El Tejon School. Pre-registration is available daily through today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Falcon’s Nest. For more details see page 16 of the print edition.

• Kids of All Ages: How to Put on Snow Chains demonstration is happening from 9 to 11 a.m. in the PMC clubhouse parking lot. This is the first in a series of events designed especially for youth and teens, but the entire family, and all ages, are welcome.!

• Michi’s Magic Bookshelf Craft Club meets at 10 a.m. at the Frazier Park Library to explore the magic of winter with classic children’s stories. If there’s no snow outside on this unwinter-like winter’s day, no worries: everyone will make paper snowflakes to take home.

• Ella Dawn Jenkins plays surprising harp music from her new EllaHarp album at 1 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library in front of the fireplace. Hear this blues, folk and pop-influenced artist who was raised right here in the Mountain Communities. See story on page 1 of the print edition.

• Embrace the dark in a Blackout Night Hike from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. at Wind Wolves Preserve. The dark of the new moon is ideal for star gazing. Naturalists will tell of nocturnal animals and lead sensory awareness activities. Black lights may be provided to discover glow-in-the-dark critters. Ages 6 and up (no strollers). Bring flashlights. • McCASA (Mountain Communities Coalition Against Substance Abuse) meeting is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). Everyone is invited to participate in this coalition of local individuals and agencies working to help our youth stay healthy so they can reach their full potential—and their dreams.

• FMHS Winter Formal is Friday, Feb. 23 at Camp AREV in Cuddy Valley from 7 to 11 p.m. ‘Winter Wonderland’ is the theme and tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple. That includes an Italian dinner and dessert.

• Auditions for ‘Blithe Spirit’ will take place Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 26-27 from 7-9 p.m. in the PMC pool pavilion. The Mountain Theater Alliance dinner theater production of this classic Noel Coward play will run April 5, 6, 7 and 12, 13, 14 and 15. Come on in, cold read and have fun.

• Volunteer at the Wind Wolves Preserve Nature Festival, Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4. Many shifts and positions (trail monitoring, nature crafts, parking lot attending, face painting and more) available for this largest annual event hosted by The Wildlands Conservancy. • The Fifth Annual Mountain Youth Photo Contest welcomes budding photographers, 6 to 18 years of age, to submit their photos now through Friday, March 2. Hurry! Over $1000 in cash prizes will be given at the show and awards ceremony Saturday, March 24 at the Frazier Park Library. An art sale to benefit the youth will be at Artworks Gallery in Pine Mountain Village. See submission form on page 9 of the print edition.
