• No date for Valentine’s? No problem! Head to our gorgeous library for Blind Date with a Book. You’ll be teased (through February) with just the book’s first line, enticing you to take it home. ‘Rate Your Date’ with a feedback card (is it a dream, or a dud?).

• Celebrate our winged neighbors: the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) begins Friday, Feb. 14 and lasts through Monday, Feb. 17. Have fun while adding to the body of scientific knowledge about our local wild bird life. Find more information and sign up at gbbc.birdcount.org.

* Pine Mountain Club is offering a special Valentine’s dinner menu, 5-8:30 p.m. in the Condor Room and Lounge.

• Valentine’s Day falls on Storytelling Night at Basecamp (136311 Askin Drive, PMC), where host Joe Ladin leads off with the theme, ‘I thought it was okay…’ Come share a story or just enjoy listening. Storytelling starts at 7 p.m., dinner service begins at 5:30 p.m.

• The Sadie Hawkins Valentine’s dance at El Tejon Middle School is 5:30–8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door, which includes a meal.

Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020

• Nothing like a rousing game of Bingo, right? The VFW makes it happen 7–9 p.m. at the VFW Hall (612 Canada Trail, Frazier Park, 661.245.3273). No latecomers, as no cards will be sold after 7:30 p.m. Proceeds go to help fund good deeds for veterans and scholarships for kids.

• Celebrate Valentine’s Day with The Love Birds Prom, 8 p.m. at The Perch in the Pines (16200 Mil Potrero Hwy., PMC), featuring DJ Vicki T, V-Day cocktail specials and a cool high-school prom theme (so rock that carnation wrist corsage). Food is served from 11 a.m.

• Have V-Day weekend fun with live music by Gravity Guild, starting at 9 p.m. at Sue’s Tavern (3440 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park).

• To observe President George Washington’s birthday, El Tejon Unified School District schools, Gorman Elementary School and Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School will all be closed today. Lincoln’s birthday was observed by ETUSD Monday, Feb. 10 of the print edition.

Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020

• Today is the deadline to register to vote in the March 3 presidential primary election. Register online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov. The deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot is next Tuesday, Feb. 25 (a week before the primary). Vote-by-mail link is at www.MountainEnterprise.com.

• Are you are a caregiver for an Alzheimer’s patient? The Meeting for Alzheimer’s (and Dementia) Caregivers is 2–3 p.m. at its new, cozy spot in Room C at Frazier Park Library. All are welcome to this informal gathering, designed to help find ways to make life easier. See page 19 of the print edition.

• ‘Snack Attack’ is the next offering in the free Parent Empowerment Series, 5 p.m. at the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). Bring your kids to make and eat snacks while learning some important nutrition tips. Healthy snacks and hands-on activities will be featured. See story on page 6.

* Celebrate Mardi Gras (a few days early) on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the PMC clubhouse, with a New Orleans style dinner menu (in addition to the regular menu) 5–8:30 p.m., and live music by the The Rich Herman Band from 7 to 11 p.m. Masks and beads are encouraged, but optional.

• The brand new Mount Pinos Chapter of the Kern Fire Safe Council invites all to a meet-and-greet Sunday, Feb. 23, 2–4 p.m. at Chuchupate Ranger Station (34580 Lockwood Valley Road, Lake of the Woods). All are invited to provide support and insight. See story on page 1.

• ‘Black and Ivory’ is the theme for the Frazier Mountain High School Winter Formal Friday, Feb. 28, 7–11 p.m. at Camp AREV in Cuddy Valley. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple (students only). Ticket price includes dinner catered by Falcon’s Nest. Tickets are only available on a pre-sale basis.

• The Seventh Annual Mountain Youth Photo Contest invites budding photographers, 6 to 18 years of age, to submit their entries. Cash prizes will be awarded, with two public shows of your work. The deadline is Saturday, Feb. 29 (yay, leap year!). See story on page 10 of the print edition.
