UPDATENeenach, CA (February 13, 2016 at 2:45 p.m.)— Jackie Chavez, 24 and her husband of Edwards Air Force Base were in the Toyota Tacoma pick up truck that was part of last night’s crash. They were transported to the hospital. “We were banged up pretty good,” Chavez said. But both are back home now. Their two dogs were missing however. They had with them a terrier mix pup and a three and a half year old boxer mix named Lily. Chavez called The Mountain Enterprise to ask that we spread the word that the terrier has been found but Lily (the boxer mix) is still lost.

If you have seen the dog, please contact The Mountain Enterprise at 661.245.3794 or at Editor(AT)MountainEnterprise.com and we will get you in touch with Lily’s family.

Neenach, CA (Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at 10 p.m.)—Neenach photographer Jeff Zimmerman writes that at 7:14 p.m. 911 operators received several calls of a serious accident on Highway 138 at 300 Street west, in the Neenach area, just east of Quail Lake. Upon arrival firefighters from Los Angeles County Fire Department found one man trapped in serious condition resulting from a two-vehicle head on, high speed traffic collision. A paramedic helicopter was requested. Two other patients were also transported by ground ambulance, both appeared to be teenagers or young adults.

Highway 138 was shut down for two hours in both directions. Debris was scattered about the highway. CHP is investigating the accident. Both Los Angeles County and Kern County firefighters worked to assist the injured patients. Both vehicles sustained massive damage. The message is “slow down!” The speed limit is 55 miles per hour on this two lane highway. That is for a good reason. Better to get there slowly and safely than never to arrive at all.
