ETUSD Votes to ‘Save Sports’ and Hire High School Principal

FRAZIER PARK / LEBEC (Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 11: 55 p.m.)–In a meeting tonight the El Tejon Unified School District Board of Trustees voted on an alternative budget to that presented earlier this month. The new budget adopted tonight maintains funding for all varsity sports programs. It also maintains funds for a new principal for Frazier Mountain High School.
The earlier budget, which did not fund sports, caused turmoil in the community and a potential exodus from the schools, along with discussions of recall of the board of trustees.

In discussion, Superintendent Katie Kleier indicated that contingency plans are being considered if revenues continue to fall. That could, in the future, include the possiblity of "closing one school site," and consolidating to save operational costs. These are hypothetical scenarios only at this time.

More details will be provided shortly.
