Grapevine Reopens

LEBEC (Friday, April 30, 6:10 a.m.)—A high wind advisory is in effect on the Grapevine and travel is not recommended for campers and high profile vehicles. Temperatures are as low as 28 degrees in several areas of the Frazier Park, Lockwood Valley, Cuddy Valley and Pine Mountain area. There has been a light dusting of snow during the night, but roads are clear and no traffic is normal. Ice and cinders on the road will affect braking and magnify the effects of speed on curves.Please drive slowly and cautiously today.

LEBEC (Friday, April 30, 4 a.m.)—A big rig is stopped in the slow lane of the NB Interstate 5 Grapevine near Fort Tejon, so CHP hazard warning, but the Grapevine is open.

LEBEC (Thursday, April 29, 11:51 a.m.)—Both north and southbound lanes of the I-5 have reopened to traffic as normal. Drivers are advised to continue driving wth caution on wet roads, especially during return commutes or trips over the pass tonight when temperatures drop and roads may ice over.

LEBEC (Thursday, April 29, 9:26 a.m.)—According to the Fort Tejon Office, CHP units are now escorting traffic across southbound I-5 through the Grapevine. Northbound lanes are open as normal. Please drive carefully.

LEBEC (Thursday, April 29, 2010 8:29 a.m.)—CHP units are now escorting traffic across northbound I-5 at Grapevine. Southbound remains closed at Grapevine Road according to Caltrans advisory.

LEBEC (Thursday, April 29, 2010 8:21 a.m.)—CHP Sgt. Whitty of Fort Tejon station says Grapevine is being closed from Newhall to Lavalle Road in order to clear cars involved in accidents. "As soon as we get these cars cleared, we are going to begin running escorts," Whitty said. Passage across the Grapevine will be resumed shortly.

LEBEC (Thursday, April 29, 2010 7:55 a.m.)—Grapevine is closed from 9 miles north of Templin Highway to Grapevine north of Lavalle Road. High winds continue with intermittent light snow. Since 6 a.m. multiple single car and small collision incidents from Gorman to Lebec Road reported by CHP. A 7:06 partial closure of SB lanes at Grapevine was posted, with a full closure  at 7:33 a.m. Watch for updates.

LEBEC (Thursday, April 29, 2010 7:20 a.m.)—Grapevine has light snow and ice with multiple reports of collisions. A high wind advisory is in effect for campers and high-profile vehicles in the Grapevine area. Southbound lanes at Grapevine closed at 7:06. We’ll be making constant updates this morning.
