Rate Reduction for Lake of the Woods Mutual Water Co. Customers

LAKE OF THE WOODS, CA (Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at 12:05 p.m.)—Lake of the Woods Mutual Water Company will be mailing a letter to its customers today announcing a rate reduction. The letter, which was provided to The Mountain Enterprise today, reads as follows:

Dear Shareholders,
Budget and Rates
Our board has worked hard on our 2018 budget and we are happy to say that your monthly rate will be lowered to $65/month starting January 1, 2018 now that we have paid off our water hauling debt. All Businesses and Churches will stay at $97/month. With our USDA grant we are required to set aside $65,000 in capital improvement reserve funds each year. This reserve will be used for improvements to our water system and replacing equipment as it wears out, such as the new meters being installed this upcoming year that will have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. We will still do a rate study once the meters are installed to determine a fair rate structure based on water usage.

Please note our new rates for various services that Lake of the Woods MWC provides on the back side of this paper [check the letter when it arrives]. One great improvement will be in the late charges, it will no longer be 8% of the total balance but 10% of the current charge. This will prevent customers who are behind from having compounded interest charges.

Owner Tenant Directive
We are also introducing an Owner Tenant Directive which allows homeowners who rent to have the bill sent directly to the renter’s mailbox. The owner is still responsible for the bill if the renter fails to pay.
