News Alert: Lebec County Water District ‘Boil’ Order Reversed and New Board Members Sought

UPDATE (Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2:05 p.m.)—CANCELLATION OF BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR THE AFFECTED CUSTOMERS OF THE LEBEC COUNTY WATER DISTRICT

This is the unedited public health advisory as received this hour from the Lebec County Water District:

On December 21, 2009, you were notified to boil the tap water supplied by the Lebec County Water District or use bottled water for drinking or cooking purposes as a safety precaution. The precautionary boil water order was issued because shortly before December 18, 2009 one of our booster pumps failed after equipment failure. This caused our storage tank to overflow and caused water outages in the Phillips Zone. Due to the booster pump failure, several customers in the Phillips Zone did not have water since December 18, 2009. To fix this problem, we replaced the booster pump.

Now all customers in the Phillips Zone have water with adequate pressure. Repair work in Phillips Pressure Zone has been completed and the distribution system has been repressurized; the affected area of the distribution system was disinfected and bacteriological sampling was conducted. Three bacteriological samples were collected on December 28, 2009 from the affected area of the distribution system and all three samples tested negative for total coliform bacteria. The Lebec County Water District, in conjunction with the California Department of Public Health, has determined that your tap water is now considered safe to drink. It is no longer necessary to boil the tap water or consume bottled water.

For more information please Darren Hager with Lebec County Water District at (661) 248-6872 or you may contact California Department of Public Health at (661) 335-7315.

FRAZIER PARK (Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1:18 p.m.)—Just an hour ago the public health department has reversed its "Boil Water" public safety advisory to Philips Zone customers of the Lebec County Water District, according to board member Darren Hager.
