Resolve to Be Ready

By Tom and Dayne Yancey

All in the Mountain Communities are invited to a fun and informative evening about preparedness for the whole family on Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the Pine Mountain Clubhouse Condor Room.

There will be demonstrations of a variety of 72-hour kits; information about the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and how to start one; activities for kids, videos and a slideshow.

This program is being prepared by the Emergency Preparedness Committee in Pine Mountain, and the PMC CERT. We hope to see you there.

In the meantime, everyone in the Mountain Communities can begin to prepare for an emergency by taking these simple steps:

  1. Be informed. Know the hazards and risks in your area.
  2. Make a family emergency plan, so you know how you would communicate with and find your loved ones if a disaster hits.
  3. Build an emergency supply kit—at home and in the car—that includes water, food and first aid supplies to help you survive if you lose power or get stranded in your car.
  4. Get Involved. Be an advocate and educator for safety and emergency preparedness within your community.

The PMC clubhouse is on Mil Potrero Highway, across from the Pine Mountain Auto Center and all mountain residents are welcome to attend.

This is part of the March 02, 2012 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
