PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at 7:54 a.m.)—Verizon Wireless service in Pine Mountain Club went down Sunday around 2 p.m. Electrical service (by Southern California Edison) was lost Friday when power lines in several areas of PMC went down during the storm. Verizon’s tower above Linden Drive remained operational after the power failure because its power generator switched on automatically. On Sunday around 2 p.m., that generator ran out of fuel causing the tower to stop functioning and Verizon’s customers to lose service. A reporter for The Mountain Enterprise spoke Sunday night with Edison crew members who have been working on the electrical problem and they confirmed that the damage to their power lines had cut off power to the Verizon tower. They also mentioned that nobody had plowed the small road leading to Verizon’s tower and that was why nobody had reached the tower to refill the generator’s fuel tank. Edison’s work crews [INCORRECT —finished repair on the electrical lines during the late hours of Sunday night or early hours of Monday morning], but Verizon’s service remains unavailable in PMC. In the meantime, in order to obtain preliminary information, we spoke with Verizon’s technical support department. The preliminary information is that they say work crews are on scene at the tower working to resolve the problem. The Mountain Enterprise reporter was on scene this morning and saw no work crews present at 7:30 a.m. The small roadway beyond the gate leading to the tower appeared to have been plowed recently. The Mountain Enterprise is waiting on a return call from Verizon’s media representative.
