Glowing smiles and high fives were exchanged among some of the hardest-working teachers in the El Tejon Unified School District Thursday, Nov. 1 when news of a one-time $100,000 award to ETUSD arts and physical education programs was confirmed. The state has apportioned an award to all public schools based on attendance. The funds may be used "for physical education and visual and performing arts," reported Superintendent Shelly Mason.

Frazier Mountain High School drama teacher Kat Fair had been monitoring progress toward allocation since learning of the funds last year. Jeff Biegle, who teaches photography and former P.E. teacher and coach J.D. Burnett were also eager to see the funds allocated, she said. According to Mason, allocations will be: $40,000 to Frazier Mountain High School ($10,000 to Music, $10,000 to Drama, $10,000 to Art, and $10,000 to Physical Education); $40,000 to El Tejon School ($10,000 to Music, $10,000 to Fine Arts, and $20,000 to Physical Education); and $20,000 to Frazier Park Elementary School. "We are very excited," FMHS Principal Dan Penner said.

"This is such a wonderful boon to our department," Fair enthused, "We need a sound board and costume racks; these funds will help maintain our assets and strengthen our entire program for several years."
