• A Construction Trade Job and Resource Fair is 8–11 a.m., 2000 K Street, Bakersfield, where employers will be accepting applications, discussing positions and conducting interviews. Training resources and information will be available as well.

• Kids, c’mon and get your free book—a special feature of each day of the Friends of the Library’s Used Book Sale! Today’s hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Drive, Frazier Park). If you like organizing they will welcome your help—an ingenious way to discover untold reading treasures!

• It’s graduation day for the Junior Rangers Club, in the park where they will prepare to ride in the Fiesta Days parade tomorrow! This fun, enriching, free program for kids 7–12 is offered by Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area rangers each summer. Parents, you might want to check it out for next year’s summer plans!

• The 52nd Annual Fiesta Days Pet Show is on Center Stage at 5 p.m. as the party begins today at Frazier Mountain Park. Rides and vendors are open for fun from 3 to 10 p.m. Admission and parking are free. See full Fiesta Days schedule on pages 14-15 and music highlights on page 10.

• Fridays at Koehler’s Cottage Garden will be featuring live music and free food 6–9 p.m. (3701 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park).

• The 52nd Annual Fiesta Days starts with the VFW Pancake Breakfast, 7–11 a.m. in the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center. The parade is 10 a.m. through Frazier Park. The carnival and vendors are open 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sounds like Date Night with family and friends!

• Such a deal: everything is half price on this final day of the Friends of the Library’s Used Book Sale, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library. Plus, kids get a free book. Enrich your home bookshelves while supporting this valuable institution in our community.

• Market Day is 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on the patio at Nature’s Home Organic Market (3011 Mt. Pinos Way, FP) and it is open to all. Bring your homemade products, produce, crafts and services to sell or barter at this free weekly event…or just come to shop for organic produce and cool stuff! See ad on page 17 of the print edition.

• If you haven’t tried a Night Hike at Wind Wolves Preserve, you have another chance tonight, 8–10 p.m. The newly waxing moon is good for star gazing. Naturalists will tell of nocturnal animals and lead sensory awareness activities. Black lights may be provided to discover glow-in-the-dark critters. Ages 6 and up (no strollers). • Wind Wolves Preserve’s Volunteer Days are a wonderful family opportunity for service and fun together, and the next one is Sunday, Aug. 11, 8–11 a.m. Learn how you can help restore the land, animals and terrain of this Wildlands Conservancy preserve. • The Perseid meteor showers peak in the wee early morning hours Monday, Aug. 12. Because the bright moon may impair viewing on this year’s peak date, earthsky.org suggests pre-dawn viewing on the weekend before (Aug. 9–11). See page 12 for more viewing suggestions.

• First day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 14 for ETUSD, Gorman Elementary and Peak to Peak Mountain Charter schools.
