Ongoing and Upcoming

• Census packets have been delivered to your door. Make sure all are counted in Census 2020! Inside the packet is an ID code number and directions for filing online, by mail or by phone. If you got a packet and you already filed, file again. It means you were not matched up to your ID code. You will not be counted twice. Just nine simple questions take just 10 minutes. Phone lines are open every day, from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. PDT (English: 844-330-2020 or Spanish: 844-468-2020). Online, go to My2020census.gov.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in the Mountain Communities are happening via Zoom at their regular times. For meeting call-in information, call Dave at 661.406.5816, or text 661.748.9525.

• Easter in July? Why not! Creative minds have hatched a replacement date for the Easter Egg Hunt & Community BBQ, Saturday, July 11, 11 a.m. (sharp). Bring the kids and come on out to Frazier Mountain Park for some good, old-fashioned fun—everyone deserves it.

• Bring your icky stuff to dump at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m–noon, Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Road). This is a great resource if you have you been using your covid-19 lockdown time for major cleaning around the homestead. See ad on page 11 for a list of what is accepted.

• You now have until August 14 to submit a comment on the new U.S. Forest Service logging project in Los Padres National Forest on Pine Mountain, which is about a 38-mile drive from our Mountain Communities. See page 6 for more details, and comment submission information.

At the Frazier Park Library

On June 15, seven Kern County library branches opened for curbside service, including the one in Taft. Reopening plans for Frazier Park Library are in question, pending Kern County budget and staffing decisions. See pages 1 and 5 for more on that.

Meanwhile, using Kern County’s eLibrary you can get access to the digital collection, with no late fees, ever! At kerncountylibrary.org/elibrary/ you can find:

OverDrive for eBooks and eAudiobooks. Each title can be checked out for 21 days. Up to 30 titles can be checked out at a time.

Hoopla for eBooks, eAudiobooks and comic books. Stream movies, television and music. Each title can be checked out for 21 days. During this closure, you can take out up to 6 items a month!

RBDigital for eAudiobooks, up to 21-day checkout, and up to 10 titles at a time.

CloudLibrary for eBooks. Each title can be checked out for 14 days, with three titles at a time. Titles can be requested and customers are notified of download availability once a title is returned.
