In the fourth volume of A View From The Ridge Route: The Resources, local historian Bonnie Ketterl Kane dedicated an entire chapter to legends of buried treasure throughout our Mountain Communities.
Using a series of writings by author Arnald Rojas and other sources, Bonnie’s collection of tales come from old vaqueros, cowboys, natives and bandits who lived or traveled in the region, in some cases over many centuries ago.
One such story tells of a gringo who traveled from the Sonoran region of Mexico to the Carrizo Plains looking for a mysterious treasure.
