Advantages of a Rural School

Frazier Mountain High School Principal Anthony Saba was eager to share good news last week: “Beginning in 2013, the top 9 percent of our graduating seniors will automatically be accepted into a University of California school (provided they meet requirements, which they will).

“This program specifically targets small, rural schools like ours in an effort to make sure we get adequate representation in the UC system and are not disadvantaged by bigger schools who may have more offerings,” he said.

Saba said he believes this new policy will eliminate the perception that FMHS students are disadvantaged when it comes to getting into a good university. –P. Hedlund
