Barricaded suspect in PMC house taken into custody

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Friday, March 24, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.)—The Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirms they have Matthew Barr, 36 in custody. He was retrieved from the basement of his residence with the assistance of the KCSO K-9 unit. Barr passed medical clearance at Kern Medical Center, KCSO reports, after receiving dog  bites and abrasions early this morning as deputies entered the home to arrest him.  Barr was arrested for two warrants, a misdemeanor and a felony (for making threats and exhibiting a rock-climbing tool that looks like an ax). He also now has multiple open charges related to resisting arrest and threatening officers with a pepper spray substance when they approached the house Thursday, KCSO reports.  Our reporters were on scene through most of the event. PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:30 a.m.)—The subject was brought out of the home at about 4 a.m. and is now in Bakersfield’s Kern Medical Center for observation, the subject’s father was told. Kevin Barr, a long-time resident of the Pine Mountain community, was at the scene from shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday until about 5 a.m. this morning., hoping to be able to speak with his son. He said his wife and daughter were at their home, praying for a peaceful resolution.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 9:01 p.m.)—Several more explosions (possibly from stun devices or tear gas) have been heard from the scene of the incident.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 6:55 p.m.)—Deployment of stun devices or tear gas projectiles can be heard (small explosions) from Linden Drive where the subject is still refusing to come out of the house in Pine Mountain Club. A negotiator, a SWAT team, paramedics and sheriff’s deputies are on scene. The subject’s father is also on scene. The negotiator is communicating with the man using a megaphone.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 4:42 p.m.)—A Mountain Enterprise reporter is on the scene and more information will be posted here when available.

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA (Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 4:10 p.m.)—A man in a Pine Mountain home is refusing to come out. Kern County Sheriff’s deputies are trying to take the man into custody on two outstanding warrants for his arrest. A SWAT team is enroute. It is unclear at this time whether the man is armed.
