Brush fire burning (now out) near National Cement plant at Highway 138

GORMAN, CA (Friday, April 29, 2016 at 5:13 p.m.)-Photographer Jeff Zimmerman reports from the scene of the fire: A fast moving grass and brush fire charred 30 acres in strong north winds today near Neenach CA, five miles east of Interstate 5 near [National Cement] plant. No structures were damaged by the fire. A second alarm was called by Los Angeles County Fire Department and mutual aide was brought in from Kern County Fire Department. Hand crews and engine crews aggressively worked the flanks to halt the fire before it could get into the Angeles National Forest.The fire may have been on the Tejon Ranch property near the hunt club. Numerous helicopter water drops helped to slow the flames until hand crews could completely surround the fire. Highway 138 was shut down for 2 hours during the fire.

GORMAN, CA (Friday, April 29, 2016 at 1:35 p.m.)—Los Angeles County Fire Department has called a second alarm on the Cement fire. Air tankers, bulldozers additional crews are enroute, according to Kern County Emergency Communications Center.

GORMAN, CA (Friday, April 29, 2016 at 1:15 p.m.)—A brush fire has been reported burning along Highway 138, south of Gorman, near the National Cement plant. National Cement office manager Jamie Birtell said the fire appeared to be down near the highway, which is “five mile drive down the road from our office.” She said it was to the southwest from her office.
