Brush fire extinguished near Lebec Community Church being investigated by arson unit

LEBEC, CA (Friday, May 20, 2016 at 5:10 p.m.)—A small brush fire that was reported at 4:35 p.m. burning 200 yards east of Lebec Community Church was contained quickly by Kern County Fire crews at 1/10 of an acre. Sheriff’s deputies were called when two witnesses reported seeing someone suspicious. At about 5 p.m. Kern County Fire Department Battalion 5 Chief Kushen reported that deputies were going to take a subject into custody in relation to the fire. Arson investigators were enroute to the scene.
