California’s first fatal black bear attack reported

Last week, California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed that a black bear attacked a 71-year-old woman inside her home in Downieville, CA, which is in Sierra County, northwest of Lake Tahoe.

Seven years ago, an elderly Pine Mountain Club woman was at home when a black bear and three cubs broke into her home. The woman tried to haze the bear by banging pots and pans. The female bear attacked her leaving her with a lacerated arm from which she recovered.

Pine Mountain Club, over the years, has seen countless incidents of bear break-ins with damage to property and near-tragic encounters between bears and the human occupants…(please see below to view full stories and photographs)
