Calling to the spirit of the pond

There were trout and salmon jumping from the depths of what was once Frazier Mountain Park pond last Saturday as residents arrived for their early-morning strolls along the oak-lined paths. As Richard and Dawn Burns walked, a strange series of images came into view.

Catfish were trolling the bottom of the dry pond for delectable plant morsels. Ducks and geese were on the shore, bickering about whose spot was whose. The Burnses exclaimed with surprise and delight when they happened upon the menagerie in and around the dry pond bed.

“This is wonderful!” Dawn Burns said.

There were 50 fish, seven geese, four ducks and six ducklings, plus the large cutout that had 39 fish. In all, there were 106 critters.

Richard and Dawn Burns loved the geese.
