The students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, gave the adults of this nation an unexpected challenge last week. Just 24 hours after a Valentine’s Day massacre of 17 more children and teachers in their own classrooms, students turned their young faces into television news cameras to speak with firm determination: “America took 17 bullets to the heart here,” they said. “This school will go down in history, not as a statistic as just one more school where children were killed with guns.
