Dear Editor:
I appreciate the community’s and the newspaper’s show of support for students’ rights to free speech and expression. Perhaps there is room for improvement in how our El Tejon Unified School District acknowledges its errors.
Even as a kindergarten teacher, I encouraged my students to speak up for themselves and to know that they had the right to be treated with respect. If I made a mistake, I was sure to address it, and to apologize whenever appropriate.
We have to model for the children the behavior we want them to demonstrate. Seems so simple, but we all need to remember sometimes that simple actions can make all the difference.
