‘Academy Awards’ at ComTec •See Video•

Meet the young people who make the Frazier Mountain High School Communications Technology—ComTec—Academy a bustling, funny, busy place of challenge and learning. This was produced for the May 22, 2014 Academy Awards.

The awards banquet for the Communications Technology (ComTec) Academy at Frazier Mountain High School was a feast of hugs, proud parents, emotional teachers and impressive young people May 22. Catering from J&B Barbecue was delicious, as were the speeches by students about the growth and challenge the program requires.

Teachers Yvette Heasley, John Domke and Tamara Trost gave out the awards, beginning with Senior Gerardo Ramirez for perfect attendance who has had only two absences since 9th grade. “No sophomores or juniors had perfect attendance,” Tamara Trost said.

The highest grade point average awards went to Sophomore Lily Hallmark, Junior Ryan Raymond and Senior Alexandria Pivetti.

Yvette Heasley saluted the outgoing executive board: Eric Steiger, Weston Wells, Alexandria Pivetti, Katie Waterhouse, Matthew Reagan, Laura Jennings and Katie Duhm. The new executive board was introduced: Alec Fausto, Matt Regan, Laura Jennings, Katie Duhm and Delaney Bever.

Sophomore Ida Coover gave a charming speech, then Yvette Heasley gave the awards for excellence in English classes to Sophomore Lily Hallmark, Junior Ryan Raymond and Senior Katie Waterhouse.

John Domke named Social Science winners: Sophomore Delaney Bever, Junior Nick Egertson and Senior Charity David.

Trost announced the Science and Math awards. Katie Barnes won for Biology. Ryan Raymond took the Experimental Design Award. The Senior Physics Award went to Charity David. Katie Barnes also won for Algebra II; Nick Egertson for Pre-Calculus and Alexandria Pivetti for Calculus.

Domke gave the ComTec Academy “Pathway” awards: Navigator, Nick Egertson; Animation, Megan Henning; Digital Media, Gerry Ramirez; Video Tech, Megan Hinsley and Nicole Thomason; Year Book, Alli Berry; Desktop Journalism, Megan Borlace; Robotics, Lily Hallmark; and Small Business, Alexandria Kern.

Abigail Steiger won the Tech I honors, followed with a speech by Jessica Hartman.

Alex Pivetti popped up again for the Most Inspirational Award. The Most Improved Awards went to Sophomore Jessica Hartman; Junior Jillian Carlson and Senior Megan Hinsley.

Domke named Eric Steiger the winner of the Can-Do Award, followed by a moving speech by Katie Waterhouse. To top it off, the Outstanding Academy Student Award was presented to graduating senior, Charity David.
