Please remember that your neighbors in The Mountain Enterprise and the Family Resource Center and the chamber of commerce went to bat to get this benefit available for our community. Please use it. And enjoy!

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 at 9 a.m.) —The cooling center in Frazier Mountain Park is closed today. Good news: The skies are clear again for a bit. Let’s hope the fire news is dull, boring, absent.  Good day for exercise, fun and sharing some laughs with friends and family.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021 at 8:18 a.m.) —The Frazier Mountain Park Cooling Center is closed today and tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at 8:40 a.m.) —The Frazier Mountain Park Cooling Center is closed again today.  The good news? That means the  temperature will not be blistering today. And more good news? Today the sky looks bright, clean and shiny. The smoke has rolled way back. Perhaps it is a great day to go walking Be healthy! All day. Enjoy.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 at 10 a.m.)—The Frazier Mountain Park Cooling Center is closed again today. The smoke in the air has rolled back by about 50% today.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Aug. 20-21-22, 2021 at 10 a.m.)—The air is still smoky and unhealthy from wildfires north of the Mountain Communities, but the temperature highs for the next three days are forecast to remain in the 80s, according to the National Weather Service. The Frazier Mountain Park cooling center—and all other Kern County cooling centers—will remain closed for the next three days.

By early next week it is anticipated that temperatures will begin to rise again. When they are open, air conditioned county-run cooling center facilities are open from 1 to 8 p.m. Residents are invited to bring snacks, nonalcoholic beverages, games, books and comfortable portable chairs if they wish. Those in the facility are asked to wear masks for your safety and the safety of others.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021 at 8:30 a.m.)— All cooling centers in Kern County are closed today as a ridge of cool air is coming through. The weather in the Mountain Communities is forecast by the National Weather Service to be in the 80s into the weekend, with temperatures due to begin rising again next week. Smoke in local skies from the Dixie fire and others in Northern California will be lessened today. Be very careful with power tools in areas with dry brush. Do not drop cigarettes on the ground. This is a dangerous fire season. Lebec has already had three evacuation alerts this summer. Please do not take chances.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Monday, Aug. 16 and Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021 at 8:15 a.m.)—The Mountain region is filled with smoke today blowing in from Northern California and air quality is poor. It will be hot, but the temperatures are not predicted to be above 93ºF, so Kern County has announced that the Cooling Center at Frazier Mountain Park (3801 Park Drive, across from the library) will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, based on National Weather Service forecasts.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (FRIDAY, Aug. 13, 2021 at 8:15 a.m.)—The Cooling Centers throughout the county will be closed again today. Temperatures are expected to rise Saturday through Monday. If the National Weather Service predicts 93ºF in Frazier Park, the cooling center in Frazier Mountain Park (3801 Park Way, at the community center) will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. We will provide an update about that when it is available.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (WEDNESDAY, Aug. 11, 2021 at 8:15 a.m.)—The Cooling Centers throughout the county will be closed today. As this region ramps up toward a heatwave at the end of the week, moisture will be in the area today, which will make it a bit cooler. As that blows off, a very warm weekend will follow.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021 at 8:15 a.m.)—The Cooling Center at Frazier Mountain Park’s community center (called by Kern County “the Recreation Building” at 3801 Park Drive) will be OPEN today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. so you can plan with your friends to enjoy the air-conditioning, and be comfortable. Please remember to bring your water, nonalcoholic beverages, books, games, snacks and yes, your face mask so we can all be considerate of others. You are welcome to bring a portable lounge chair. Residents from all the Mountain Communities are welcome.

P.S. This is a switch: Frazier Park’s is the only county cooling center open in Kern County today.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Monday, Aug. 9, 2021 at 8:10 a.m.)— Cooling centers throughout Kern County are closed again today, but warmer temperatures are anticipated toward the end of the week. Bakersfield is expecting 103°F temperatures, according to National Weather Service predictions. The Frazier Mountain Park Cooling Center is open when NWS predicts 93°F temperatures. So far, NWS is projecting 90°F temperatures on Thursday through Saturday. We will keep you posted if that changes.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021 at 8:10 a.m.)—Skies are hazy with smoke floating in from other regions today, but extreme temperatures are not anticipated. Cooling Centers throughout Kern County are closed today.

UPDATE: Frazier Park, CA (Tuesday, Aug. 3 2021 at 2:30 p.m.)—The Mountain Enterprise checked in at the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center today as the temperature hit 93ºF in Frazier Park. The staff person from Bakersfield was sitting alone, by himself, enjoying the air conditioning that had cooled down the entire room. He was comfortable, but probably a little bored. This is just a friendly reminder, that the cooling center is there, open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. so you can plan with your friends to use it, to be comfortable on very hot days.

Thanks to the Mountain Communities Consortium members, the Adult and Senior Services Department of Kern County, The Mountain Enterprise, The Family Resource Center, Supervisor Scrivner’s Office and the Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce for helping to make this resource available for residents from the entire mountain who need a healthy, comfortable place to be.

Cooling Center Is Back—If Today Is A Scorcher, You Have a Place to Cool Off!

Frazier Park, CA (Tuesday, Aug. 3 2021)—It is Tuesday and the cooling center in Frazier Mountain Park will be open again for all Mountain Community residents seeking a place to cool down. Please remember to bring your water, books, games, snacks and yes, your face mask so we can all be considerate of others.

Frazier Park, CA (Monday, Aug. 2, 2021)—Here’s a switch: this Monday, cooling centers throughout Kern County will be closed, except in the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center—because he temperature is forecast to rise above 93 degrees. That threshold temperature was finally lowered from 95ºF due to multiplerequests from the people of the Mountain Communities.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Cooling Center in Frazier Park will open when when the temperatures are forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) to be 93 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The center is open from 1 to 8 pm.

Residents using the Cooling Centers are encouraged to bring their favorite non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, reading materials, games, etc. to better enjoy the centers.

This service has been offered by Kern County, including its Parks Division, the Department of Aging and Adult Services, and PG&E.

COVID PANDEMIC RULES ARE BACK IN PLACE”

In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, ALL Cooling Center visitors:
• Will be required to wear a face
covering.
• Visitors who have a fever or are exhibiting symptoms will not be allowed in the center.
• Visitors must practice physical distancing at all times—keep at least 6 feet away from other guests who are not a member of your own household.
