Cuddy crash tears car to pieces

CHP officers report that a possible unsafe turning movement on Cuddy Valley Road led to a sensational solo vehicle accident on Thursday, Feb. 9, just west of Lake of the Woods.

When firefighters looked under the hood of this 2008 Chrysler Sebring, the engine and the transmission were gone. The driver, Piñon Pines resident Jerry Tapp, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Left: The engine was found 230 feet from the point of impact, off the shoulder of the road.

Right: The transmission was found across the roadway from the tree.
