Gorman, CA (Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.)—A 3.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at 6:58 p.m., 9 miles north of Castaic, east of Interstate 5. That was followed by a second quake—4.5—at 7:18 p.m.
If any one in the Mountain Communities felt the quake, please send us a note to Editor@MountainEnterprise.com .
Patty Kaiser said she felt it in Lockwood Valley: “Yea, Lockwood, short sweet jolt! My guess…4.9, not rolling, short and choppy.” She was pretty close in her estimate. She says that is because she lived through the Northridge earthquake, which felt as if its epicenter “was right under our bedroom” in Reseda.
John Delmos in Lebec writes: “Felt a couple. Took a few secs. First one, thought it was a sonic boom, second one shook the house (Lebec) sounded like a bomb or sonic boom. Thank you for covering this.
John and Linda Curtis of Frazier Park felt it also: We felt the stronger quake at 7:18 p.m. We heard the rumbling noise first and thought it was UPS delivering late. Then we felt the mild rolling shake and reported it to USGS on their “Did You Feel It?” site: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/
Tammy Powell of Lebec wrote: The earthquake last night was my first experience with one. I moved to Lebec in August of 2014 from Colorado and I had no idea what the rumbling effect was while sitting in my bed. A strange sensation to say the least. I didn’t find out what it was until today when I read your paper online. Thank you for enlightening me. I’ll know next time. Lol!
