Editorial: Baloney isn’t a healthy diet, even for moguls

Centennial still on hold, next hearing Aug. 29

EDITORIAL:  On July 11 the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission continued their hearing on Tejon Ranch’s Centennial mega-development, pushing it downstream to August 29.

District 5 Commissioner Pat Modugno said, “I’m not ready to make a decision on this, and I’ll put that out now.” As an example, he spoke of skepticism about the developers’ theory of “Jobs-Housing Balance.”

Experts say Centennial, at build-out with 60,000 to 70,000 people, will generate 75,000 more vehicle trips per day on gridlocked freeways. Tejon Ranch Company, the developer, waves that away, saying “local hire” preferences will solve that problem, suggesting the majority of people who live in Centennial will work there too—walking and biking rather than driving.
