ETUSD Board Votes to Send Out Limited Pink Slips

LEBEC, CA (Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at 8:45 p.m.)—The ETUSD Board voted tonight to send out reduction in force notes (“pink slips”) to a limited number of teachers before the March 15 deadline in order to meet state budget requirements. The vote was influenced by a surprise visit from the Kern Superintendent of School’s financial advisor team. The board voted to notify 4.5 teachers and a school psychologist.

See this week’s issue of The Mountain Enterprise (on newsstands now) for a discussion of the state law that mandates the March 15 notices.

The Reduction in Force notices are required so the district can reserve budget options that may be needed later in the year to qualify for a “positive budget.” Historically, most “pinked” teachers have been asked to report back to work in August. There will be a full analysis of the February 19 meeting  in The Mountain Enterprise next Thursday, on newsstands February 26.

This is part of the February 20, 2015 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
