ETUSD Special Meeting Friday at 8 a.m.

A ‘Special Meeting’ has been called by El Tejon Unified School District for 8 a.m. on Monday morning at the Condor Academy (on the Frazier Mountain High School campus). The agenda said the trustees plan to discuss in public session (at 8:30 a.m. ) hiring an administrator for El Tejon Middle School. But to those who observe closely, that proposal flies counter to a decision made by the ETUSD superintendent and the ETUSD business manager.

In presenting their plan for a balanced budget for the new school year, the superintendent and business manager told the trustees on June 14 how they will reach a balanced budget next year—without having to make teacher layoffs. They advise reducing administrative positions for 2018-19. The board voted to approve the budget on June 18.

Trustee Lark Shillig voted ‘nay‘ and asked for another special meeting (which is occurring Friday, June 22) to discuss hiring a principal for El Tejon School. Superintendent Rod Wallace told the board June 14 that he is willing to take on site supervision duties for the school to get the district’s finances back into the black while “keeping cuts away from the classroom.”

See  this week’s June 22 issue of The Mountain Enterprise—on the streets Thursday, June 21—for an explanation of the proposed balanced budget plan and what the prospect of abandoning that plan just days after the budget has been adopted may mean for the school district.
