Homecoming is always a big night in high school football, and the Falcons delivered to a large crowd last Friday night when they took on the Rosamond Roadrunners.

The Falcons were coming off a loss to Mojave the week prior, so they knew they had to pull off a victory to remain in the race for playoffs.

The Falcons came out strong scoring 36 points in the first half. The first touchdown came from a three yard rush by Tony Lenz followed by two more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter. John Burns threw for two touchdowns in the second quarter by completing a 5 yard pass to Benny Carrillo and a 32 yard pass to Danny Venegas.

The Falcons’ defense shut down the Roadrunners offensive by not allowing a single point to be scored in the entire game. At halftime the score was Falcons 36 Roadrunners 0.

The Falcons game was strong in the second half as well. Ethan Fausto had a rushing touchdown in the third quarter and Danny Venegas got his second touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 69 yard pass from John Burns, making the score 50 to 0. This puts the team at 1-2 in League play, and 6-2 overall.

Tony Lenz ended the night with 17 carries for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns. John Burns was 13/18 with 258 yards and 3 touchdowns. Danny Venegas finished with 2 catches for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Benny Carrillo had 1 catch for 1 touchdown, Joe Regan had 2 catches for 47 yards, Tim Buxton had 2 catches for 53 yards, Jake Korbel had 4 catches for 48 yards, Ryan Avveduto had 1 catch, and Logan Kelly had 1 catch.

On defense John Burns had 1 interception and 3 tackles, Benny Carrillo had 7 tackles and 1 sack, Jack Korbel had 6 tackles, Sam Teare had 5 tackles and 1 sack, Nils Ullmann had 5 tackles, John Aguilar had 3 tackles, Ethan Fausto had 5 tackles, Tony Lenz had 5 tackles, and Josh Carlson had 6 tackles.

Thank you to the fans, the band and the cheerleading squad that came out to support the Falcons on Friday.

The Falcons play their last scheduled home game this Friday, against Desert.

Cheerleading Coach

The halftime show for Homecoming started with a performance cheer "Simply the Best," performed by the JV, Varsity and eight alumni Falcon cheerleaders (Amber Patton, Alexis Acosta, Jessie Corral, Becky Hartshorn, Tiffany Polk, Carley Holcomb, Mary Murphy and Colleen Cruz) who returned to perform at Homecoming.

After the cheer, all the girls performed a dance. The squad is starting a new tradition by inviting the Alumni Cheerleaders back each Homecoming to perform with the squad. Although there were only eight this time around, we are hoping to get a lot more next year.

The halftime show then announced the Homecoming Queen Elena Nommensen and King Tony Lenz. They and the court drove around the field in convertibles.
