UPDATE—LEBEC • August 11, 2018—A major operation was underway on Saturday, Aug. 11 to try to bring down the tower at the “J.” It wouldn’t budge. Big equipment was brought out, metal cables were wrapped around the structure, the tug of war began, but entropy prevailed. The Flying J tower appears to have been built to withstand the San Andreas Fault’s anticipated “Big One” tremor. At 2 p.m. the tower was still standing, while the puzzled workers are conferring…and scratching their heads.

August 10, 2018 — No, this is not Syria. It is Lebec. The Pilot-Flying J company confirmed last week they will rebuild the Lebec truck stop and plan to reopen by January 2019. Meanwhile, we were told that employees have been reassigned to other stores in the region. This is for the scrapbook.
