Frazier Park and Lebec, CA (Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022)—El Tejon Unified School District schools—Frazier Mountain High School, El Tejon School and Frazier Park Elementary—are expected to be running as normal on Monday, Jan. 24. Bus transportation is likely to resume. Watch for a robocall from the district. Here is a note from Superintendent Sara Haflich:

“Luckily, at this point, it appears all of our buses will be up and running with no problems on Monday.  I just always try to work with families to plan ahead when possible.
“ETUSD has been extremely fortunate to not have had to close any classrooms or schools due to numbers of positive cases within the classrooms as other schools in the county and state have had to do.  We are working very hard district wide with families to keep all school sites open by continuing to follow all health department guidelines.”

ETUSD Schools Close Thursday and Friday, But Open Again Monday

Frazier Park and Lebec, CA (Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022)—El Tejon Unified School District schools—Frazier Mountain High School, El Tejon School and Frazier Park Elementary—will be closed today and Friday, taking “snow days.”  Schools will be open again on Monday, but parents are encouraged to arrange for their children to get to and from school, in case staffing is still inadequate to run the district’s transportation department. A robocall will be sent out on Sunday evening with an update.

ETUSD bus drivers and transportation department staff are among the 8.8 million workers across the nation who are reported to be off work due to coronavirus illness, taking care of someone who is sick, or quarantining after reportedly being exposed to someone who has tested positive, according to data from the United States Census Bureau.

“These are the highest [absentee worker] numbers since the agency started taking the survey in April 2020,” the bureau reported. About 2.2 million more workers are out now than during January 2001’s peak of 6.6 million absent workers.

ETUSD Superintendent Sara Haflich said small schools, and small districts, are especially challenged right now. In the interest of safety for all staff and students, if staffers are exposed, it is sometimes not possible provide the personnel necessary to run schools as normal, she said. See the letter from the superintendent below.

January 19, 2022

Dear ETUSD Families,

Thank you so much for being so wonderful and supportive during this crazy time. Due to transportation issues and in an effort to help slow the possible spread of Covid during this time, ETUSD has decided to use two of our built in “weather” days and cancel school over the next two days. There will be no school for ETUSD January 20 or 21. ETUSD schools will be open beginning Monday, January 24, however, there is a chance transportation will need to be placed on hold part of next week.

We are announcing this now to give families the opportunity to plan and begin arranging possible transportation for your child to and from school if needed next week. We would like to work with families to plan ahead just in case.

A robocall will be put out Sunday evening announcing whether buses will be running on Monday. I do apologize for the chance of no transportation for a few days next week, but ETUSD is committed to keeping students in school and would rather stay open vs. continuing to cancel school completely. community members tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This clinic will offer vaccines and booster shots for both Pfizer and Johnson-Johnson to anyone five years of age and up. A parent must be in attendance with their student for them to receive the vaccine.

Sporting events will also continue to be held for both FMHS basketball and soccer over the next two days.

As always, if you have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to contact me or your site administrator.

Sincerely,

Sara Haflich, ETUSD Superintendent
