School, Water And Health District Boards Need You

As of August 5, three candidates have stepped forward to serve on the Frazier Park Public Utility District Board. Incumbent Gerald Garcia will face Joy Oldright, a former board member. Incumbent Gerald McKay is running unopposed.

The Golden Valley Municipal Water District serves Gorman (on both sides of the Kern and Los Angeles Counties boundary). Two seats are opening. No candidates have filed. Candidates need only file in the district in which they live.

Only one candidate has stepped forward to serve on the Southwest Healthcare District Board. The terms of three directors are expiring. Incumbent Malinda Chadwick has filed.

Three seats are also opening on the El Tejon Unified School District Board of Trustees. Two more candidates filed last week. Jennie Jenkins, listed as an educator, works with the Castaic Union School District. She is a two year resident of Frazier Park.

Peter Kjenaas [pronounced Chennis] of Lake of the Woods is listed as a CEO and producer. He called The Mountain Enterprise to explain his intention to run. He has two children at El Tejon School and served on the school site council. He is also co-founder of the Mountain Shakespeare Festival.

Also filed to run are Bradford Oliver of Cuddy Valley, an engineering consultant; Anna Soares, Pine Mountain and Frazier Park, an attorney and former member of the Mountain Communities Town Council; and six year incumbent Paula Regan of Frazier Park, self-described part-time accounts receivable administrator with a local chiropractor and stay-at-home mom.

There is no cost to file to be included on the ballot as a candidate. A small stipend is paid for serving on some boards. Filing takes place in person in Kern County.
